The (Unofficial) Talisman Computer Game

I discovered that I still have a back-up copy of the original Unofficial Talisman Computer Game (the one that was removed by request of Game's Workshop's over-cautious legal department in 2009), so I decided to upload the site to a new server (for educational and legacy purposes only).

There is an even older version of the website here as well.

You still won't find the actual game on any websites I control, so here is a video of it running instead.

Games Workshop versus the Space Marines

Games Workshop versus the Space Marines

We recently stumbled upon the following article on the BBC news website (follow this link) about the latest in the Games Workshop versus The World Intellectual Property battle.  It seems that Games Workshop have wielded their legal muscles again and priced science-fiction author M.C.A. Hogarth out of a legal claim to the term 'Space Marine', claiming that the term (referring to the Warhammer 40K universe) is their property.

It is the opinion of Superdecade Games that the term 'Marine' is a generic term, and 'Space Marine' is simple one of those - but in space!  Are they going to make the same claim over 'Space Pirate'?  What about 'Space Winnebago'?  It would not surprise me if GW one day laid claim to the word 'Wizard'.

Visit Hogarth's website by following this link.

Talisman Digital Edition Trailer

It's coming - slowly - Still not as good as the Unofficial Talisman Computer Game, but we are getting there! Nomad tell me that a full multi-player version will be available by May 2013, but no sign of a release date yet other than 'Summer 2013'. Features: Multiplayer modes for up to 4 players. Play against AI opponents. 14 characters to choose from. 17 powerful spells to cast. Many expansions available post-release. Detailed, interactive tutorial.

Talisman Prologue in development

A video from Nomad Games showing the development of Talisman Prologue from a text based game through to its current iteration. Let's hope Nomad can complete the game and include multi-player and AI, for without it, I still feel that my version is better! Follow this link for the Nomad development diary.

Unofficial Talisman Game legacy

I continue to receive requests for a download of the Unofficial Talisman Game. Unfortunately I am unable to provide a link under the conditions of the "cease and desist" order from Games Workshop. This is such a shame because version 9 was freaking awesome! It is a shame that GW feel that they have to protect their Intellectual Property so vigorously as I share the opinion of many of you that the Unofficial Talisman PC Game was nothing but a free 'walking advert' for Games Workshop. Perhaps it is because Games Workshop own a property that is so vague and ephemeral ("Wizard", "Psionic Blast", "Rune sword", "Maiden"....... what?! I can't call my guy a wizard??!"). I am being flippant, but there are many examples of GW stomping on the fan-made creations out there because:
GW will not tolerate your activities as they could lead to confusion in the mind of the consumer
GW "cease and desist"
You might enjoy our other games PoopScoop, ASCIIBombman or Starfunk.

Thank you for all your kind words and I hope your quest for version 9 is successful and avoids any nasty communication from the GW Bully Boys.

Just in case there is any confusion in the minds of any of our readers.  The following image is a screenshot from the new Nomad Games Officially licensed version of Talisman:

This is a screen shot from the Unofficial game by the amateur programmer T Street from "Superdecade Games" (A completely unofficial version of Talisman, in no way endorsed by Games Workshop that has been removed from all sites we control.  Phew!  Oh yeah, and these images have been used completely without permission, just in case you were in anyway "confused" as a "consumer")

The Official Talisman Game announced

Nomad Games Limited has secured the rights from Games Workshop to develop Talisman specifically for play on digital and connected game devices.

Read all about it by following this link.

Here is an extract from their site (my emphasis):

At last, the superb fantasy adventure board game that is ‘Talisman’ makes it into the domain of the video game. The first release is called ‘Talisman Prologue’ - a version based on the full-rule set that is designed to let solo players quickly explore the nature of each character and the board itself in a series of challenging quests.
'At last...' ??!!?! They must have forgotten about this and this !  ;-)

Unofficial Talisman Computer Game Torrent

Unofficial Talisman Computer Game Torrent

It has come to my attention recently that the Unofficial Talisman Computer Game (although not available on any sites I control) does exist on some torrent sites.  Follow this link for a version 6 torrent.  You will need torrent software to start the download, something like utorrent.  Enjoy, although version 6 was the first release I got up to version 9 before Games Workshop sent me the 'cease and desist'.

I have found it interesting that the Chaos Dwarfs have been discussing the Unofficial Talisman Computer Game recently.  The full thread can be found by following this link.

Thank you Talisman fans

Thank you! Talisman fans continue to visit these pages and I am sorry that I can no longer provide a link to download (Games Workshop know how evil they are).

Please enjoy our other products (follow the links above)- there are more in the pipeline.

In the meanwhile please enjoy some images of the LEGO Millenium Falcan and some Falcan quotes:
She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.
She's the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.
This bucket of bolts is never going to get us past that blockade.
You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought.
Would it help if I got out and pushed?
Let’s just say we’d like to avoid any Imperial entanglements.
Yes indeed, if it’s a fast ship.
I've made a lot of special modifications myself.
